Churches and the Songline

On In the first year of his three year project Tom will walk up the east coasts of England and Scotland starting at Tilbury on the Thames Estuary and finishing 1,500 miles later at Cape Wrath at the top north west tip of Sutherland. The coast passes through eight English Diocese and five in Scotland. He is arranging to sing in all 250 churches which are on or near enough to the coast. He is to contact all the churches through the Diocesan offices who have agreed to inform them of his intentions, invite them to visit this website, and then contact them individually to set up his visit.

Tom will have prepared a ten minute song presentation specially created for the SONGLINE. It will be appropriate for churches and contain material pertinant to his journey and also to explore the acoustic of each building. He will sing unaccompanied. It is up to each church to celebrate his visit in whatever way they choose. If it is interactive all the better and any contributiion will become part of the SONGLINE.

Tom will be sending a copy of his CRB Certificate to the various Diocesan Centres and it will be made available for any other groups who need it who lie outside their duristriction.

The song/hymn could be special to the church or its local community, or on the theme of travel, pilgrimage, the weather, or the season. Local church schools have often met in their church for a celebration and informal talk. Whoever is involved is invited to walk to or towards the next community and held Tom carry the SONGLINE onwards. If it is the end of a day then hospitality would be gratefully accepted, so to any financial contribution towards the cost of the trip but Tom wishes to emphasise that there is no charge and his mission is to sing around the coast using the churches as focal points or energy centres and to facilitate events. Anyone choosing to walk must take full personal responsibility for themselves and the Very Moving Festival Company cannot be held responsible for any unforseen circumstances arising from their free choice to be involved.
