Tom Scratchley

The ongoing ideal of establishing songlines lies within a core group who have experienced it through Tom's persistence and perspicacity in its enduring and infinite possibilities. He has no elevated opinion of his own abilities to sing, rather his desire is to involve and motivate people to experience the joy of singing through him and his endeavours. As a boy chorister from the age of 7 he has experienced all the opportunities afforded by the church from church choir to Cathedral (Edinburgh and Exeter). It was however as a clarinettist that he entered the musical profession subsequently teaching at several schools including being Head of Wind at Malborough College. He then got very involved in Rudolf Steiner Education and spent 15 very special years as class teacher and head of music in several schools.

Tom Scratchley
Singing was always the focus and on going freelance he became the first choral animateur in Kent and then Head of Vocal Studies at Bromley Youth Music Trust. He has left this post on the advent of his 60th year as he wants to get back to his beloved creation of Songlines. Since announcing his intention, it is clear that many of his friends and colleagues wish to join him and that his several choirs in London and Sussex are willing to support both his absence and his intentions and that he carries their goodwill with them. This he feels will help carry him on his way and through the auspices of modern technology they and others can join Tom in his mission.
